Solo Baritone

& consort singer

Philip is in increasing demand as both a recitalist and concert soloist, and as a consort singer. He has given recitals at the Three Choirs Festival, Ludlow Weekend of English Song, the English Music Festival, and in other venues around the UK.

Philip's singing has often been informed by his research work, which largely revolves around the English song repertory. However, he is equally at home in Bach, Beethoven and Schubert.

Recent engagements have included singing Pilate and arias in Bach’s Johannes Passion (in German and in three different English translations!), and in July he is to be the soloist in the first modern performance of William Harris's The Hound of Heaven. Forthcoming recitals, in 2015, are in the English mode, featuring Gerald Finzi's Earth and Air and Rain, Ralph Vaughan Williams's Songs of Travel and Five Mystical Songs, George Butterworth’s Six songs from A Shropshire Lad, and songs by Arthur Bliss, Hubert Parry and Paul Spicer.
